2020-11-28: The Santa Fe River flowing between snow-covered bushes
Before the Santa Fe River leaves the Sangre de Cristo Mountains it runs into two dams used to control its flow. The amount of water returned to the river varies from inexistent during drought periods to highly significant when supply allows it. The river leaves the foothills at the intersection of Cerro Gordo and Upper Canyon Road and continues towards the city center in relatively flat land covered with bushes and trees. In winter this part of the river is most attractive after a snowstorm, with white snow contrasting with the earth-colored water and surrounding vegetation.
