Biography
I live in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
I enjoy nature in its ever changing properties.
Photography enhances the ability to observe, near and far.
I use a Nikon D810 DSLR camera with a variety of lenses.
Most satisfying is walking through old neighborhoods,
hiking in the Santa Fe foothills, and climbing mountains.
However, one cannot avoid the need for computer work once back home.
My early childhood was bathed in nature, on a remote olive plantation in Tunisia and a farm in Southwest France. Scorpions, turtles, and Roman ruins in Africa. Woods, mushrooms, and medieval castles in Europe. University took me away from the countryside to cities, first in France then in New York City, where I graduated as a mining engineer. But nature was never far.
Whether for work or leisure, I travelled on all continents, gaining a deep appreciation of natural and human diversity. More striking than differences were similarities in human expectations. Development of worldwide projects required that attention be given to these expectations. Without such attention, projects were doomed to fail.
My interest in photography goes back to when I graduated from high school and was given my first camera, a Voigtlander, which produced amazingly sharp images. Documentary photography played an important role during my worldwide travels. After retirement I decided to dedicate my newly acquired free time to photography. Santa Fe was the perfect environment, with its amazing lights, changing seasons, diversified cultures, and the exceptional opportunities for learning from others.
